I would be nice to have the ability to update text in an ArcMap document like you can updated text in any Microsoft 2007 office product.  Instead of having to go to the properties of the text box then change symbol.

Quite a few options are available on the drawing toolbar. This is normally docked at the bottom of the ArcMap session. Someone actually pointed this out to me after I had been using ArcMap for three years. Definitely a time saver. Select the text on your map and then use this toolbar to make changes. Hope that helps!

YES for editable text directly in layout. YES for easy text formatting.

NO for obsolete text properties dialog box. NO for formatting tags.

The drawing toolbar is good for creating new text, but you can only moify the font type, size, bold, italic and underline.

I wish ESRI would create a similar toolbar to edit the specific properties (General, Formatted Text, Advanced Text, Mask)  as you would when you select "Change Symbol...", "Edit Symbol..."

Can't we just select text within Layout and use a toolbar instead of clicking on various windows!

Thanks.
