Allow reordering of all diplay columns in ArcCatalogue 10 inc. Type and Name

In ArcCatalogue 10 when trying to reorder the type column for display I get the following message:
"Cannot move Name or Type columns". It would be helpful if the type column could be moved because after the name I wish to display the feature type which is more detailed, rather than the more board type, which is less detailed.

Hi Tim,

When you refer to the "type" column, which column are you referring to?  

Are you working in the Table preview of ArcCatalog and trying to drag columns into different positions?

Please provide clarification.  Is this for display purposes only, or are you trying to permanently reorder fields?

ArcGIS Desktop retired March 1, 2026 so we won’t be considering this idea. We recommend that you migrate to ArcGIS Pro, our fully supported desktop GIS application.
