It would be nice to have a checkbox in the Properties Dialog box, Display Tab, that would allow you to turn off displaying pyramids. The default should be checked on, to display available pyramids, but being able to uncheck the box would be useful.
Yes, you can re-name the pyramids or delete them, but it would be easier if you could just tell the application whether or not to display pyramids.
