Currently Pro tries to predict or 'enhance' the text selection experience. If you click & drag to select specific letters or words, it will often attempt to select the whole word etc.
When wanting to only select specific letters this 'help' is unwelcome and requires you to do various additional moves or workarounds to get just the bits you wanted.
This issue is not unique to Pro but it feels to me as if Pro has an additional bit of 'we are here to help' thrown in that makes it more frustrating to deal with.
Please add a setting to disable this behaviour completely. I want to be able to click & drag over text from a spot of my choice and not have the selection deviate 1 iota from where I move my mouse.
