Hi All,

I have a quick question regarding parcel fabrics. I received a request to add parcel points to our parcel fabric. These points would be a feature class that indicates both the parcel number and acreage.

Is there a way to incorporate these parcel points into the fabric so they can be managed by records—that is, created by a record and retired by a record—similar to how other parcel features are handled by the fabric?

Thanks

If you are trying to automate this then I can think of 2 ways of doing it:

  1. Attribute rules. You could write a rule to use the Arcade Centroid function to write points to a feature class when a polygon is created and copy the "created by record" value. You would also have to write additional rules to handle parcel changes such as being marked retired. Handeling splits and merges can be tricky.
  2. You could create a python batch job that runs every night that creates and updates points based on the Parcel feature class.

Thanks Drew,

Currently, parcel points are mapped manually by our "Mapper". These points do not represent the central location of the parcel. The location is determined from cartographic stand view. Since we maintained and will continue to maintain parcel, lot, and block annotation. A parcel may also have multiple points due to several reasons. A lot line cuts across the parcel or the parcel is split by a road or water body... etc

We are considering removing these points, but they are currently used in various workflows. At this stage, the points are not part of the parcel fabric. However, incorporating some fabric-like characteristics into the feature class would be neat.  Is it worth the effort and time? Not really but still worth exploring.
