Very Large Scale Tile Cache

The AGO tile scheme goes to 1:70. I'm working on a project of a small area where I flew drone imagery and need to publish the imagery to a scale of at least 1:10, 1:5 preferred. I realize this is an insanely large scale but that's where this technology has taken us to. Since the AGO scheme only goes to 1:70, do I have any options for getting imagery online past the 1:70 scale? Or is that just a limitation of the technology and that's all I'm going to get?

Hello,

You can generate your own tiling scheme using the Generate Tile Cache Tiling Scheme geoprocessing tool Here, you can specify the coordinate system, scales, and other parameters to be used by a tile cache.

https://pro.arcgis.com/en/pro-app/tool-reference/data-management/generate-tile-cache-tiling-scheme.h...

Then, when sharing the service, instead of using the default ArcGIS Online tiling scheme, browse to the XML file created by the geoprocessing tool, and the caching properties will be changed.

See the "Tiling Scheme File" option here for more information: https://pro.arcgis.com/en/pro-app/help/sharing/overview/configure-web-tile-layer.htm

The only caveat here is that if you are generating the tiles in ArcGIS Online, credit prices should be taken into consideration.

Thanks. I'm going to have to read up on that tool. I tried a quick test using 10 scales starting at 5 and going up by increments of 10 to 95, so 5-95. Left most things default and created the xml. I loaded that into the tile cache tool and ran it and it created a cache but when viewing the tile cache in Pro, the tiles stopped showing after zooming past 1:25. I'm assuming to get this to work on this large of scale I'll have to mess with scales and tile sizes and such.

So if I create my own tiling scheme and levels and create a cache, in theory I can create a tile package from that and it will still work in AGO even though it's not in the AGO scheme? Since my intent is to have this be in a web map it wouldn't make sense to create my own tiles/scheme and then not be able to use it outside of desktop software.

You can build the tile cache locally using the Create Tile Package geoprocessing tool, and then upload it directly to ArcGIS Online through the Content tab -> Add Item.

https://pro.arcgis.com/en/pro-app/tool-reference/data-management/create-map-tile-package.htm

With this workflow, you can check that the tiles finished generating by monitoring the status of the geoprocessing tool.

Web maps inherit the coordinate system of the basemap, so if you use this tile layer as the basemap, it should display just fine in the map viewer.
