'Shared by' account not updating

I need to change the ownership of a lot of content from one account to another.  This is not a problem (although I support the enhancement request re allowing the change of account name as this would save me a lot of work!).  However, I also want the data available via our hub (which is not yet live) to show that the data is shared by this new owner.  The 'shared by' account (in the 'About' section of the data item page) remains the original owner.  I can re do the sharing options in the new owner account but more often than not these changes do not carry across.
Does anyone know how I achieve this change successfully, or, better still, hide the 'shared by' info?
