Road Labels Suddenly Broken in MapViewer

Recently, I was going through one of my Experiences and saw that my road labels were really funny looking.

Some of them were missing letters randomly and north/south roads that were longitudinal had two labels each, with the labels facing different directions. If the label is set to "Center Along" for Placement, it results in a jumbled mess. See screenshots. Notice in the second screenshot, when I set placement to Appear Above, that there are two labels for each north/south road segment. It is only assigning two labels for absolutely vertical roads, or close to it. (90 degrees to the equator)

I now see that this is suddenly affecting all of our products with labels that were configured in MapViewer. (really just roads).labelsglitch-mapviewer.pnglabelsglitch-mapviewer2.png

There have been no recent updates that we have pushed to the hosted feature layer for Roads, so we believe that something has changed in AGOL to cause this.

Please help or escalate.

I noticed line labels displaying poorly after the June 2026 AGOL update that happened last week. Lines are labeled with skipped letters/missing random letters (see SS.png attached). This is happening across the board for all labeled line layers; it happened with a line feature class that I had published from Pro, but also happened with a hosted feature layer that I created in AGOL with labels configured solely in AGOL. Hopefully Esri corrects this line labeling display issue.

Hi @twilliamson_topv and @RenderImages What you are describing sounds similar to two issues we are current tracking, they are under review by the product teams.

BUG-000185883: Some line feature labels are duplicated and overlap when using Concatenate in an Arcade labelling expression

and

BUG-000185886: When zooming in and out along line vertices, labels for line feature classes are missing some letters - ArcGIS Online Map Viewer

Happy to hear at least that this is unexpected behavior and not something broken on our end. I will turn labels off on these products until a fix is released. Thank you.

This is happening to my organization as well for all line features with labels. Line feature labels are duplicated and overlap even when not using concatenate or any arcade expression. Both Bugs are currently occurring.

Discussed and alerted an Esri Rep  from Esri support services yesterday. Keeping an eye till fixed.
