"Group Template" equivalent for Web Maps

Hi everyone,

I'll try my best to describe the issue I'm having, but I'm not a technically trained GIS professional and I still struggle with keeping the terminology straight. I'm more than happy to clarify any of these points to the best of my ability.

Background: We use ArcGIS Field Maps to collect field data (who could have guessed?). We access Web Maps created in ArcGIS Pro and published to ArcGIS Online through the ArcGIS Field Maps application as our exclusive method of collecting field data - that is to say, using an alternative such as distributing map packages to all of our field data collectors did not meet our needs, so using Web Maps hosted on ArcGIS Online is our only option at the moment and into the foreseeable future.

Problem: We would like to use more advanced template options for some of our features. As a specific example, we would like to create a line feature that automatically creates a separate point feature at each and every vertex on the line feature. We have been able to achieve this in ArcGIS Pro using the options available in the Group Template function. However, when we publish a Web Map with a Group Template, the Group Template functionality is not preserved in the Web Map on ArcGIS Online, and in this example the line feature does not create a separate point feature at each vertex when we create the line in ArcGIS Field Maps.

Request: 1) Is there a way to preserve Group Template functionality in a Web Map on ArcGIS Online? 2) Is there a better way to achieve what we're trying to achieve - specifically, to have a line feature class and a point feature class "linked" in such a way that when creating the line feature, the separate point feature is automatically created at each vertex on the line?

In a perfect world, there would be a way to manually add a (presumably separate) point feature to a line while in the midst of creating the line. If I were tracing out a stream, for example, and wanted to add occasional photo points (or flow rate measurements, or pH measurements, etc.) along that line while I was still tracing it out, it would be nice to have that capability without interrupting the collection of the line feature.

It's entirely possible that I've overlooked a very simple solution to this problem, so don't hold back if I've missed something obvious. I'm open to any and all suggestions, even if it makes me look like a fool.

Hi @TrentonWalker, currently you can use group and preset templates if they've been created with an enterprise geodatabase and feature services using ArcGIS Enterprise 11.3 or above.

This blog has more information on how to set that up and publish the group and/or preset templates to use in your webmaps: https://www.esri.com/arcgis-blog/products/arcgis-pro/electric-gas/introducing-editing-templates-in-t...

We will be adding support to publish group and preset templates as a hosted feature service in a future update of ArcGIS Pro.

Thanks for the response, @bbollin. We don't use an enterprise geodatabase at the moment, so we'll be (eagerly) looking forward to that update to Pro, and we'll use some other workaround for the time being.
