I'm a newbie to this.

I'm trying to use ArcGIS Online to publish a map service generated from a feature service, itself coming from a csv file I uploaded.

I've gotten the map service set up initially, complete with valid extents.  Long Beach, California, Left: -118.26 Right: -118.06 Top: 33.89 Bottom: 33.75 - for anyone curious.

When I next click the Manage Tiles link, it comes up with a count of map tiles to be generated; looks to be too few, but what to do?  As may be, when I next click "select all scales", then hit the button [Create Tiles], a pop-up with "Invalid Extent" appears.

Generation of the tiles seems to be necessary for viewing the feature data - right?  Well, anyhow, how to get past this?

After searching arcgis.com for your items, I found a CSV, a hosted tile service and a hosted feature service.

You should be able to use this item directly in your web maps. You don't need to create a hosted tile service. Just use this service.

http://www.arcgis.com/home/item.html?id=1f6290ec68964c39b86dfcb0b670e841

I was also able to reproduce the invalid extent problem you saw when publishing your feature service as tiles. THis is a bug that I believe is due to the fact that your CSV only has 1 point feature in it, so the extent probably isn't set right. We'll have to investigate this.

Thanks,

Mike

No, you don't need to generate tiles to view a feature service. You should be able to add the feature service as a layer in your map.

I'm not sure why you're getting the error, however. Perhaps you can share the URL to your feature service item.

Thanks,

Mike

It's only got one (maybe two) point objects in it.  I may have added the second when I opened the feature service directly in a map viewer window.  Anyhow, neither seems to be visible now.
