Hi,

Why do points I add as an editable layer not show up in the Legend?

From map consumer POV, the Points are visible on the map and have symbology and popups-- it seems like the symbol should be explained in the Legend.

Well, from the arcgis.com map viewer we don't show map notes in the legend. We viewed map notes as annotation, not necessarily real features. Like you might draw an arrow to point at something and you really wouldn't want to show that arrow in the legend. If you choose one of the other layer types when creating features, these will show up in the legend.

However, as Rupert points out below, Explorer Online has a layer property that allows you to turn on the legend for the map notes layer. This option is not exposed in the arcgis.com map viewer (an inconsistency we should address).

Hi Clem

Here is how to make your map note layer appear in the legend of your web map.

1. Open your web map in ArcGIS Explorer Online.

2. In the Contents window, click the > control next to your map notes layer to see its properties.

3. Check the 'Show in Legend' box.

4. Save the map.

Your map note layer will now be shown in the legend when you view your web map with either of the web clients.
