I have a built an app in AGOL using the new web app builder.  Even though the application and the map it is based on are shared with everyone (Public) it is still requesting an AGOL login when the link is clicked.

Is there a step I'm missing here?

Thanks in advance.

If you go to My Organization > Security you will find a check box under the Policies section - Allow anonymous access to your organization's website and another one under Sharing and Searching - Members can share content outside the organization. I am not sure which one or both do the trick but I would take a look there first.

Can you please share the link? It may be that your organizational account is configured to not allow for public access.

Thanks Stan.... the security setting seems to have done the trick.

Much appreciated.

Thanks Tobias

It was in fact a security setting as suggested by you and Stan.
