I'm trying to use this feature when sharing a feature service that has edit tracking and settings where only the editor can view or see their records. What I'd like is for multiple people in a group to have shared editing so that they can edit peoples records who are all in the same group. But people outside the group not to see or edit.
At the moment individuals in the group can't edit another persons records. Which is restrictive when in a shared workflow and they may need to update fields on the record for the other person.
I thought the above setting wold allow this, but is doesn't seem to go down to feature level, just item detail level.
any thoughts?

Hi Alistair,
Are you looking to track who is making the edits to the feature service or using editor tracking specifically for permissions?
If you are looking to have a group of users update a specific feature service, try following on of these 2 workflows to accomplish this:
Workflow 1: Group with Access and Update Capabilities
1. Publish a Feature Service
2. Have an administrator create a group with the item Update capability enabled. This is outlined in the following geonet conversation: Why can't group members contribute items to the group?
3. Invite the editors to your group.
4. Share the desired service with the group.
5. Have users open the feature service from the items page with full editing control to have full editing capabilities.
Workflow 2: Create a role with Edit Features with full control privileges
1. Create a custom role for users who will be updating the service
2. When assigning privleges to the role, ensure that under general privleges>editing that the following privilege is checked on:
3. Assign the new role to the users who will be updating the data
4. Have the users who will be updating the service navigate to the service item page and open the item with full control in the map viewer

from the big cavaet section in this thread Create groups—ArcGIS Online Help | ArcGIS
it appears that their permissions would have to be elevated
.... snip.... then
Only the owner (or administrator) of the item can perform the following actions on the item (not all actions apply to all item types): delete, share, move, change owner, change delete protection, publish, register an app, overwrite data in hosted feature layers, and manage tiles in hosted tile layers.
