I am getting an error when ever I try to add a basemap or link to ArcGIS online through ArcMap 4.0. It says "An exception occurred during a WebClient request." How do I fix this and get it to work? Thanks.

I am getting an error when ever I try to add a basemap or link to ArcGIS online through ArcMap 4.0. It says "An exception occurred during a WebClient request." It looks like I can access ArgGIS online through a webpage but I want to have it work within the ArcMap program like it used to. How do I fix this and get it to work? Thanks.

Hi Samantha,

I would recommend reaching out to technical support to look into the issue further.

I had the same problem and tried the following and it worked. I found this fix in another thread related to errors.

Delete any DefaultDomain_Path folders. (Note, this may also help if the search window appears, but doesn't find anything)

a. Open Windows File Explorer

b. In the file path box type: %APPDATA%

c. Click the up arrow to go up one folder

d. Open the Local folder, in that open the ESRI folder (you should now be at: C:\Users\username\AppData\Local\ESRI)

e. Delete any folders with a name starting with: DefaultDomain_Path...
