Getting Edits to Stick

I have added a feature service to my arcgis.com map. The edit options show up for the service but the edits wont stick. For example I add a polygon by clicking to add vertices but as soon as I double click to finish it disappears. Changing the field values in an existing feature never transfer to the actual feature in the database.

The edits stick in every other application just not arcgis.com.

How do I get the edits to stick?

This is strange. Can you share the URL your map so we can try it out? If you don't want to share it publicly on this forum, perhaps you can create a group in arcgis.com and you can invite me to be a member of so I can see it.

Thanks,

Mike

Hello Mike,

I sent an invitation to you. I would open it up to the public but I am still a little unsteady on how to adequately protect my data. If anyone else wants to join the group just let me know.

Hi Ben,

I joined your group...however there is no content in it. Did you share the item with the group?

Thanks,

Mike

I tried to log in from outside my work network and I wasn't able to access any services either. Maybe this is the problem. I added services using the http://[my server name]/arcgis/services, which works in my office but do I need to use another path for everyone else to access it?

It sounds like your GIS server may be behind a firewall. While at work, since you are inside the firewall, some operations will work, but others require external access by our servers.

However, the URL you entered would work in arcgis.com, but typically if you type the URL in a web browser, you need to include the "rest" part, like this:

http://myserver.com/arcgis/rest/services

So try the above from an external machine.

The actual URL is this http://server/arcgis/rest/services; So do I need to do something special to get it to be public? I noticed in your example that the server had .com on the end, mine does not.

Also, I completely disabled my firewall and tried accessing the services from outside the network and was still unable to use them.

One thing I noticed is that a new version of the database was created (I assume this occurred when I added data to arcgis.com because I didn't create it myself) called Air_edits. I edited this version in ArcMap but it refused to reconcile with the default version, or rather the edits didn't transfer to the default version. Could this be the cause of the problem?

Ben,

I think your best course of action is to contact Esri Technical Support. I don't think we can troubleshoot this effectively in the forums.

Thanks,

Mike

Thank you very much for your help. I will post the solution when tech support and I figure it out.

Any success with getting your edits to stick.  I am having same problem.  I can delete features but not edit attributes, add features or move features.  Edits just fine in ArcEditor but not in ArcGIS online.
