Errors when following workflow in: How To Limit access to secured hosted services

I'm trying to follow the workflow in the following article: Limit Access to Secured Hosted Services or Map Services in ArcGIS Online for Public-Facing. However, I'm receiving an error on the item's details page after I create it ("Unable to access layer settings") as well as when I try to open the item in a Web Map (Unable to add layer). Has anyone found a solution to these?

Update to this: When I removed the spaces from the layer name that was published, I was able to get this workflow to work.
