I have been through the process several time and I keep getting a very generic error message when I try to publish a service that I uploaded from ArcMap.

The first warning I get is when publish from ArcMap, cache generation failed:

The service uploads without an issue, but when I view it online and try to publish it there I get this message, "There was an error":

Tough message to troubleshoot, any suggestions?

Thanks,

Adam

Hmmmm, I don't seem to have the Manage Tiles link.   I just recreated the SD file with the build cache manually option selected and it look pretty much the same as all my other attempts:

Adam,
You are looking at Service definition. You should look at "Map Service" in your org. You will see Manage Tiles link.

I'm also on 10.1.  You can view my SD here:
http://www.arcgis.com/home/search.html?q=amebc&t=content

Do I need to add you to the members list so that you can see the SD?  If so, do I need your e-mail?

Adam,
I looked at your SD. It looks like you are using Level of Details = 20. That means you are generating a cache of 270 GB. You can verify that by clicking on "Calculate Cache Size" button on Service Editor dialog box in ArcMap and then estimating cache by clicking on "Start" button. Please observe that even though you are trying to publish a data around 20 MB your cache size is around 270 GB for Level of Details = 20. This is because higher number of Level of Detail require more number of tiles to be generated, which requires more storage space.

I am not sure how much space your organization has but, it looks like this is the bottleneck in your case. I would suggest reducing Level of Detail = 2 (may be 5), then see how much space it requires and publish it accordingly.

Yes, I'm using 10.1.

My service is here:

Thanks,

Ryan,
I can't access your data but, it may be the same issue as Adam is facing on this thread.

The problem is I do not get any map service generated when I run the publish service from ArcMap:

I certainly did not publish with 20 levels of detail.  I did run through the Analyze process and adjust the Calculated Cache Size to be under 30MB:

Is there a way for me to open the SD file and check the cache size once it has been generated?

Adam,

I was able to successfully publish your SD file. There were only 5 scale levels for a total of like 1500 tiles. Do you have access to Chrome browser? Perhaps we an monitor the network traffic to see if a more verbose error shows up.

Here's what I created...

Ok, looks good.  So what is the secret?  Is there something amiss with my account?  The way I'm uploading?

That is the question. It doesn't appear there is anything wrong with the SD file. So there may be something related to the trial subscription. If you hve Chrome, we can enable some developer tools in the browser to look for errors. Or if you have a program called Fiddler, that's another way. IE9 has developer tools as well, if I recall.

Ok, Yeah I have chrome, what do I need to do?  Here's a brief video of the publishing process I was using: http://youtu.be/uDef06dW5nU

Actually, can you try what I did. Specifically, take ArcMap out of the workflow.

Download your own SD file.
Delete the existing one in My Content.
Use Add item to browse to a file on my computer.
Browse to the SD file.
Upload it again.
Publish it
In the resulting service that gets created, hopefully, manage tiles to build them.

Thanks
