Editing list inside of field

I created a list for known criteria within a field to make entering data easier for field work. The problem is that there will be additional criteria discovered as this field work is conducted.

Is it possible to create an 'other' option where a new item for the list can be entered without having to go in and edit the entire list?

Hopefully this made sense!

You can manually create a list of domains and add an 'other' option yourself for them to choose.

Thanks for your response Laura.

Yes, I am able to add other as an option but I'm trying to see if I can enter a new criteria there instead of having to edit the entire list.

I'm confused - enter new criteria where? If you want your user to manually type something in then you can't have a domain.

We collect data on tree species. I wanted a list of species to choose from so we wouldn't have spelling errors. But we also need to be able to add new species we come across that aren't yet in our data.

You'll have to go in and add that to the domain.

Hi @BenjaminChristy

One way to allow data collectors to capture the data would be to:

1. Add 'other' as a choice in the domain and

2. Add a new text field, ie 'Other Species', where data collectors can spell out the new species.

3. Using forms, you can set the new Other Species field to be visible only when the value selected in the previous field is 'other'.

Hope that helps!
