Drivetime Analysis

Can I get a detailed explanation on how the Drivetime Analysis tool produces its outcome? Is it using some sort of Road Network Dataset that recognizes the MPH of the roads? Just curious because I ran a 15 min analysis and noticed there was a gap missing (def within 15 min from Point provided). The gap contained secondary roads in a rural area and Im assuming the Network Dataset hasn't gotten that far with the info. Any info would be awesome, thanks community!

Esri and its partners provide the road data required to accurately perform this type of analysis. The data covers approximately 150 countries, and many areas are enhanced with dynamic traffic information, making results even more accurate when solving transportation problems for a specific time of day.
