Cannot save Credentials on a secure server in ArcGIS Online

I cannot save the credentials for a secured service from a stand alone 10.8.1 ArcGIS server in ArcGIS Online.  I can add the service, without saving the credentials.  I can access the data once I manually type in the service credentials but I cannot save them in AGO.  Any ideas?

Hi @KarenLizcano1 the service may not be externally accessible?  For example, are you able to access the service URL when you are not on your network (i.e. outside of your firewall)?  The service will need to be externally accessible to store credentials.

I can access it if I put in the credentials in the map.

@KarenLizcano1 can you share the URL you are trying to access in AGOL?  This will help me determine if it's externally accessible.

@KarenLizcano1 are you adding the service by going to Content > New Item > URL?  This worked for me:

yes, but when i move the slider to save the credentials, and put them in and hit next it gives the error.  I know they are the correct credentials because they work when I dont save them and add the service to a map and put them in.

Hey Karen,

I am going to rule out certificates on the ArcGIS Server machine as I would expect the toggle setting to not be visible if these were not valid on the ArcGIS Server.

Is there perhaps a communication issue happening here? We occasionally see issues for users who have blocks against the US on their networking. The ArcGIS Online proxy is based within the US so it might explain why we get an error.

If you have any public Enterprise deployments then it is worth checking these to see if adding the service as a secured item functions as the proxy for these will be internal.

If you are stuck with this then certainly worth raising a Support Case for assistance.
