As a workaround, you should be able to rebuild your description from scratch, which should remove the background color. To do this, navigate to the description editor - backing up your text before you edit, if necessary - then highlight all the text in the editor and delete it. Make sure line breaks and white space content is deleted as well. Save the change, then re-enter the description editor and enter your text again. Make sure you don't click on or use the background color button while you are rewriting your description, then save when you're done.
Note that if you are copying from an HTML or Rich Text source (such as WordPad or MS Office) and pasting it into the description editor, it will keep as much formatting, colors and style information from your source as possible, as the description editor supports Rich Text. Make sure you are copying from a plain text source, such as text from an application such as Notepad, if you are going to paste text into the description editor and don't want to carry over formatting, colors, etc. from your source document.
