I'm testing the Open Data Beta, which seems to have some very promising features. It is entirely possible that I am missing something, but it appears that the Widget Editor for a Dataset Map is not working as intended.  Attached is a screenshot of what I see, which is an endlessly spinning icon & a scrollbar that moves up and down.  The primary group that I have designed as available for Open Data usage is http://amherstma.maps.arcgis.com/home/group.html?owner=olkin&title=Amherst%20MA%20GIS%20Map%20%26%20...

Hi Anne,

Currently the best way to know what content will be in your site, is to view the group in ArcGIS Online. We are working on a new widget that will provide a better list view, as well as an Admin experience that will show you a list of content available in your site.

Hope that helps,
Andrew

Thanks Andrew,

Yes I know I can designate and manage with AGOL, which is great.

But is it not via the data list or map widgets that the data can be displayed on the Open Data site homepage?  I am looking at Detroit's site (http://d3.d3.opendata.arcgis.com/) and it seems that they are able to display data in the way you showed in the demo.  Again, not to be dense, but am I missing something, and there is another way to do this besides the widgets?  Or is it that those widgets have worked for some and not for others?

TIA

You could put a link on your page that will bring up the full data listing, if that helps.  I know its not exactly a list on the homepage, but its a simple work around for the time being.

I took this syntax from the D3 site....

http://d3.d3.opendata.arcgis.com/datasets?

Thank you, Leon, that is exactly what I needed to at least get off the ground!

I still have had no luck in setting up a Dataset Map, but Leon's suggestion is quite helpful in providing a way to list all datasets that we have shared.  This is what I am planning to use for now:

I just noticed there is a box on the bottom of the Widget Editor for the Dataset Map that you to paste your Dataset ID into.  Get your item ID from the url of the item on arcgis.com

example...
https://www.arcgis.com/home/item.html?id=YourItemID123556

May I suggest setting an extent for your dataset map as a future enhancement.  My map is a little boring looking, because the user needs to zoom in to see any features.
