Applying filter to hosted feature layer in web map causes symbology to disappear from legend

I've shared a hosted feature layer to a group in my organization, which I intend to use in a series of maps and dashboards that ultimately will be embedded in a web experience. The layer is symbolized by two different fields, both of which are domains. The layer appears just fine on my web maps, until I apply a display filter to the data. At this point, the features remain visible with their symbology intact on the map, but all of the categories on the legend disappear. All that remains is the category for "all other values" (in versions of this layer that include it; if not included, the legend is totally blank).

Does anyone know why this is happening and/or how to fix this?

Thank you.

P.S., I'd upload screenshots to help illustrate my point, but I apparently don't have permission to upload images. Perhaps this is because my Esri community account is brand new...

If you can share the map I can take a look. Are you using a filter or a display filter? What style are you using that is symbolized by two fields?

Hi Russ,

Apologies for what might be kind of a lame reply. I don't believe I can share the map for privacy reasons. I wanted to add some screenshots of what I'm talking about, but the site is telling me I don't have permission to do that, either.

The symbology was created in ArcGIS Pro before sharing as a hosted feature layer. It uses unique values for two different fields, both of which are text domains. The symbols themselves are pretty simple- polygons with 1-2 layers of solid or hatched fill plus an outline- so nothing that should break the internet or anything. In fact, they still show up on the map just fine!

In AGOL, I've created a series of maps that are all essentially regional views of this same layer. In each map, I've added a filter that only shows features within the associated region, which is a third text domain field (so I believe this would be a display filter, as opposed to a filter I set in the layer's data tab). It is when this display filter gets set that most of the legend disappears, and I am left with only the "All other values" section. If I remove the display filter, the full legend is restored, but obviously the purpose of the map is defeated.

Does that help at all?

Thank you,

Jay

That was very helpful 😅

I was able to repro it with those details and caught the regression. I'll be reporting it over to the SDK team and looking into patching. I would recommend contacting support and logging a ticket if you need it for tracking and they will be able to link it to our dev work.

Understood. Thank you for looking into this!
