I logged in to AGOL this morning to load my map content and received a message that Classic Map view will be deprecated in Q1 of 2026.
Please rethink this because as someone that uses AGOL primarily on the Desktop, Classic Mode is better for inputting and updating /editing attributes there are more editing tools viewable and the layout makes more sense.
Non classic mode appears to have been designed for tablet/mobile use, for desktop use the functionality is not as streamlined and requires more clicks to open and find the necessary tools for locating, plotting, editing and updating features and associated attributes. Due to this I always use Classic View Mode as it's faster to carry out the tasks above.
Are you working with feature classes hosted in ArcGIS Online (hosted feature layers) or are you using ArcGIS Server/Enterprise for your data source?
Hi there,
Working mainly with hosted feature layers .
AGOL does have a newer editing-specific 'Web Editor' view of the new Map Viewer that is actually pretty great. Bulk editing, reshape, split, snapping, merge, etc. Have you tried using that?
Hi @GrahamByford,
Here's a blog outlining the retirement process and the resources available to help with the migration (blog). Jennifer Bell (lead product manager for Map Viewer) has also reached out to you directly to hear your feedback. If you're interested, there are a number of blogs outlining the editing experience in Map Viewer and Web Editor to help facilitate your migration. For example, Tips for Easier Editing in Map Viewer.
Hi Lauren, thank you for the reply and the useful links, I will have a look through those. Yes, I can see Jennifer has been in touch I will get back to her and arrange a feedback session. Many Thanks
this is accidental post. sorry
