In looking for examples of tools available for use with our EDA. I have been exploring tools to distribute the task of locating active businesses within our corner of the world. The thought came up to use Facebook or LinkedIn as a base for a more global tool to locate resources. Unfortunatly, there does not seem to be a method to query these tools to spatially locate the host agency. If ESRI could create a web service which Facebook and LinkedIn could use to geo-locate a "company", then the GIS community could benifit from providing the user community with a method to locate active businesses within their area. This may also be serving to ESRI as an introduction to the use of spatial mapping technology and increase access to information reguarding the locations of industry types.
Once in place, a simple geographic query could be conducted to determine who in a given area is active on LinkedIn or Facebook. That would be extremely powerful and useful.
