More blocks than 15 and more than 16 items per block on ArcGIS Online Home Page

Hello all,

Please allow us to have more than 15 blocks on the ArcGIS Home Page. We have our users trained now to go to the home page to find their group of maps and click a map. They will not easily be able to navigate going to a group page or content page etc to find their maps - these are not GIS people.

This blog: https://www.esri.com/arcgis-blog/products/arcgis-online/administration/create-a-great-home-page-for-your-organization/ states "Up to 15 blocks can be added, but using only what is essential will keep the home page experience simple". With all due respect, I don't want my home page experience to be simple, I want it to be easy for my users to find all of the maps they are looking for - I want it to be complete. That is essential. @MikeMinami @BernSzukalski thoughts?

Similarly, we show only web maps in each block. But each block only allows us to show/list 16 items. So I had to add a View Gallery button. I think allowing more items per block would be helpful instead of having to go to a different page to view the gallery.

Your thoughts and suggestions are appreciated. A question back to you is: How many blocks would you find sufficient to meet your needs?

There may be other things that you could consider that would offer more flexibility in showing additional content for viewers without showing lots of maps at once. The current 15 block limit given 16 items per block is a potential total of 240 items - a lot to look at for anyone.

Some things that might be worth considering:

Use a group containing other groups - a group of groups.
Use the Category Gallery, a group-based Instant Apps which can be configured to display items in a group with filtering.
Add links to Hubs.

I believe the above would offer more options for presenting content and still keep things simple on your Home page.

From my understanding of what you are trying to do (which might not be accurate) I would suggest looking at Category Gallery. It's one of my favorites for presenting lots of content in easy-to-filter ways. The categories can be group-based categories, content can be placed under multiple categories, and you can quickly and easily change/add/remove categories.

Thank you for the ideas. With no further blocks allowed on the AGOL Home Page I will have to use an alternative and push my users to a new experience.

I like the Category Gallery Instant App idea. Thank you for sharing that - I had not heard of it yet.

In my attempt to migrate to using the Category Gallery I have run into a road block. Please support my recent Esri Enhancement Request: ENH-000157633 Add and assign organizational categories to all of the items in a group content page in ArcGIS Online.

I’m requesting the ability to assign organizational categories to all of the items in a group content page in AGOL. See screenshot of group content page:

Similar to how you can already assign organizational categories to multiple items in the Content My Organization page:

Without this ability, I will have to go to each item, one at a time, and categorize them before I can start using the Category Gallery Instant App.
