Problem: When multiple features are selected in a web map, the navigation buttons in the pop-up (the small arrows to move between records) are very subtle and easy to miss. Many users don’t realize they can scroll through the selected features, which leads to confusion and frustration.
Impact: This reduces efficiency and creates a poor user experience, especially for non-technical users or those with accessibility needs. Important data may be overlooked simply because the navigation controls are not obvious.
Proposed Improvement: Make the navigation buttons in web map pop-ups more visible and intuitive. Possible enhancements include:
Increasing the size and contrast of the arrows
Adding hover effects or tooltips (e.g., “Next feature”, “Previous feature”)
Providing alternative navigation options such as a dropdown list of selected features or list the selected features in the header of the pop-up
Value: Improving the visibility of these controls would make web maps more user-friendly, reduce training needs, and ensure that users can fully explore the data presented.
I agree. I feel like all but our most experienced users miss the arrows and are confused when the popup doesn't display what they think they clicked on. I try to disable popups as much as possible to avoid this issue, but sometimes it's unavoidable. It would be great if it were obvious to users that there were multiple popups available.
