Group Layer Visibility Turned On When Layer In Group Is Turned On

Would it be possible to have the option to turn on the visibility of a group when a layer within that groups visibility is turned on?

Running into some issues with users turning on a layer within a group, but not having the group visibility turned on and they are left wondering why their data is showing up on the map.

This request came up for our team yesterday. We have a major application with many layers in a dozen groups.

A user could reasonably expect to expand a group, check the specific layer of interest, and have the parent group turned on automatically. 

In the ArcGIS Online platform, this would be like the experience that users have when assigning a content or category group; they only need to check the child category - not the parent AND child category - in order to select a category.
