When editing feature layers configured in ArcGIS Online, the default field order in the new Map Viewer is alphabetical. This means that the field order configured when the layer was set up is overridden and data collection forms appear confusing. This issue only occurs in the new Map Viewer which is creating confusion among our Field Maps users.
We understand that it is possible to change this through the 'Configure Editing' options in the map viewer, but it is inconvenient to add an additional step to a workflow which was previously working for us in Map Viewer Classic. Since our users never want to collect data in alphabetical order, it would be better if the default field order preserved that from the layer's data table.
Proposed Solutions: Either (1) change default field order in ArcGIS Online to honour the field order in its table. (2) add an option to choose the default field order when creating a feature layer in ArcGIS Online
