In order to increase collaboration between users, many institutions have enabled one admin privilege giving users the ability to create groups where group members can update all items shared with the group.
However, ArcGIS Online does not allow this custom role to be used as the new user default role. Even though this can be fixed using a Python script to change a new user's role after the account is created, I think this is inefficient and prone to error.
I like to suggest to the ArcGIS Online team to either allow a custom role with admin privilege to be used as the account default or change Create with update capability from admin to general privilege.
