Sync Illustrator layers with ArcGIS online?

Hello,

 

Is it possible to bring a layer I have drawn in Illustrator into my ArcGIS online project?

It depends on your requirements. You could try to look into the Media Layers capability, if it perhaps meets your needs.

Thank you. My specific objective is to take polygons drawn in Illustrator as a map overlay back into GIS to calculate the area. Can this be done?

I would recommend you to draw the polygons in ArcGIS in the first place. If you take them out of Illustrator with the objective of calculating the area you need to make sure that you export georeferenced data in order to get correct measurements. I am not a user of Illustrator so I do not know what the options are.
