Hi everyone,
I am currently working on a research project that involves ArcGIS Pro and REST APIs, specifically utilizing the Cropland Data Layer (CDL) to analyze agricultural land cover data. CDL provides essential geospatial information on croplands across the U.S., and I need to efficiently retrieve this data for multiple years.
Current Challenge:
Right now, I can manually download year-wise GeoTIFF files from the CDL Download Portal (link), but this is not scalable when working with multiple years of data. I am looking for a way to automate the process using APIs, so I don’t have to download each year’s dataset manually.
I have been exploring the CDL Developer Guide (link), which outlines the ArcGIS REST services that CDL provides. However, I am struggling to locate the exact API endpoints that would allow me to:
Query and retrieve crop-related data programmatically
Download CDL data in GeoTIFF format year-wise using an API
Automate the extraction process instead of using the web UI
What I Need Help With:
- Identifying the correct API endpoints to retrieve GeoTIFF files for different years
- Understanding how to properly structure API requests for bulk or automated downloads
- Best practices for integrating ArcGIS REST services with my research workflow
Request for Support:
If you have experience with Esri’s ArcGIS REST APIs, especially in working with CDL data, I would really appreciate your guidance. As a graduate student, I want to ensure I’m following the right approach and not missing any key details that could simplify this process.
I would love the opportunity to connect and discuss this further. If you are familiar with this or know someone who is, please feel free to reach out via email or drop a comment here. Any help—whether it’s pointing me to the right documentation, sharing example API requests, or providing general insights—would be greatly appreciated!
Looking forward to your insights!
Best regards,
Arpit
