The latest ArcGIS Online release includes new and updated content from our user community. Thank you to our Contributors and Partners who help support the Living Atlas of the World by providing data and enriching Esri’s online basemaps.
This release incorporates new and updated coverage to the World Topographic Map for the municipality of Saipan in the Northern Mariana Islands, Queensland, Australia and several cities and counties in the United States and Canada.
Many of our Community Maps contributors are beginning to share their organization’s large-scale map layers. Layers including building footprints, trees, sidewalks, landscape areas and street pavement lend great context to any map. The World Topographic Map is being transformed by our user community. Here are some great examples of this transformation.

This Story Map Series visits selected areas in several communities where new and updated content are available.
Esri Canada has detailed basemap updates in this January 2016 basemap updates blog.
I would like to encourage our users to begin thinking about the data they are managing within their organization and what would be appropriate to share in order to enhance Esri’s online basemaps, and to help our user community in their work.
Contributors can participate in Community Maps by sharing general layers like roads and building footprints, but landscape and area of interest layers are also accepted and described by clicking the table below.
You can view examples of these layers by visiting Esri Community Maps Basemap Layers.
