measurement tool and local coordinates

Using the sample here ArcGIS API for JavaScript Sandbox 
the measurement tool woks only if I used an esri basemap - topo, satellite.. etc - as a basemap in the map object, and it uses the

"WGS 1984 Web Mercator (Auxiliary Sphere)" coordinate system as a reference for measurements.

But I do not want to use an esri basemap. I want to only consume my local map services published through my Arcgis server with my local coordinate system as a reference for measurements.

I took a deep look into that widget, I didn't find the map projection handler for live display. I had the same situation couple weeks ago where I wondered if I should recreate the whole widget so it can handle projected map and still have the same live display experience. hopefully ESRI will take a look again at this widget for next releases.
