I understand that ArcGIS Indoors and other third party software packages can be used to create Indoor Mapping Data Format (IMDF)  files for use in Apple Indoors,  but we do not yet have any of these available.

Are there any open source ways to create the IMDF files?     We have a simple building that is a large shell used as an equidome with only one floor and several restrooms but no permanent indoor offices.

Let me know if you have any suggestions on how the create IMDF files without purchasing software.

Thank you,

Mele

Thank you for the responses.    What I did was to create my own IMDF using ArcGIS Pro to export to GeoJson  and then using the Apple Business Register Sandbox and a free tool from FME to verify my IMDF met the specs.    I then uploaded it to Apple and had to fix a few things, but it works.      It isn't for the faint of heart, and not likely the way I'd do it again, but it is working and IPS is active.

I am not sure if you will be able to find any open-source tools to help you convert the Indoors information model to IMDF. If you have access to Safe's FME Workbench, there are documentation pages and probably even templates to guide you through the data translation process. Please refer to the following blog posts to learn more about the overall Apple IPS deployment/setup phases (AppleIPS for Arcgis Indoors) and how to perform data translation using FME workbench (Converting ArcGIS Indoors Data to IMDF).

What do you need IMDF for? Check out Mappedin. You can create an indoor map for free. They have many products include indoor positioning which uses IMDF to enable blue dot on iOS. It’s probably the cheapest solution. There is no open source project currently.

We use IPS for our event season out here.    Barrett Jackson Auto Auction takes place in Scottsdale at WestWorld and parts of the auction are conducted inside of buildings.    Our GNSS is terrible as expected.

Glad you were able to make it work!

As you probably discovered, the ArcGIS Pro export to GeoJSON tool doesn't structure the JSON quite the right way and it takes a lot of massaging to conform to the IMDF specification. For a one-off DIY situation I'd recommend using QGIS for its native support of GeoJSON.
