Surprised to find no measure tool/widget for the instant apps, in general or minimalist.

Hi William, measurement tools are available in a few instant apps right now.  Media Map template might be one which could work for since you were looking for it in Minimalist.  The others are 3D Viewer, Exhibit, and Imagery ViewerNearby and Sidebar (similar layout to Minimalist) will have measurement tools added in the Spring 2022 update of ArcGIS Online.

Thanks for the quick reply. I have a general and minimalist web app that teams is using heavily. I'd hate to swap out the URL out from under them. Hopefully the measure tools will make their way to general and minimalist soon.

The spring update was listed as completed in March and I still don't see any measurement tool options in any of those apps.  Did these updates get kicked down the road?

BethRomero

@JaredAuch Currently, 3D Viewer, Exhibit, Imagery Viewer, Media Map, and Nearby have measure capabilities.  Sidebar will be adding measurement tools in the June 2022 release, which should be coming out this week.  Measurement tools are located in full setup of some apps, one way to locate tools is to search in the app settings.  You can search from express and it will find capabilities in full setup as well.

@BethRomero I had a little trouble finding the measurement tool in instant apps but did finally find it thanks to that search settings you mentioned. Going off of that, do you know if there is anything in the pipeline that will allow the measurement tool to be configured where we can set a default measurement? Right now, in instant apps and experience builder, the measurement tools are just an on/off option. From what I can tell, someone made a custom widget that did just that in Experience Builder; however, my expertise does not lean that way so I am unsure on how install that.

@CatherineCronlund_2 can you provide more details about what you mean by "Set a default measurement". Do you mean that you want the tool to be started with a pre-existing location to measure?

CatherineCronlund_2

@KellyHutchins In web app builder it allows me to set feet as the default measurement tool. In Experience Builder it is automatically set to meters with the option to change it after the app loads but users have to do that every time they load the app. It is a switch that is an on/off option in experience builder rather than the configuration options that are shown given web app builder. I know it’s a small thing; however, that is one of the biggest complaints or questions to change it that I get about the configurations on apps from users. Does that make sense?

KellyHutchins

Yes that makes sense. We'll look at adding a config option to set the default units for measuremenbt.

@KellyHutchins Thank you for looking into it.

@KellyHutchins - our users are expressing this same frustration en masse as well. Please keep up posted if you add a config option to set the default units for measurement via Instant Apps.
