Importing CAD annotation

Hello,

How do I see my CAD annotation within Indoors?

I am attempting to import CAD annotation from a CAD file into Indoors and have been unsuccessful. Whenever I do so, all of my CAD file is imported and visualized on my map aside from the annotation.  

Within the "Import CAD To Indoor Dataset" tool I have made my CAD annotation layers the "Source CAD Layer" for "CAD Annotation Mapping." But I do not see any annotation on my map after running the tool. 

I also tried to add the annotation layers into the "Source CAD Layers For Details," but there was nothing visualized on my map.

Hi Jace,

Sorry to hear the CAD annotation isn't getting imported. Thanks for the screenshots; those are always helpful! 

There are several possibilities here... please check the following:

1. What version of ArcGIS Pro is being used?
2. When the Annotation feature class is added to the map, does the annotation in question appear on the map? If not, try going into the Annotation map layer's Properties > Definition Query and disabling any active definition query.
3. In the Annotation map layer's attribute table, scroll right and confirm that the expected text values are in the Text column. 
4. Add the DWG's TextAnno feature class to the map. Using the Text field values in each layer's attribute table, locate the TextAnno point feature associated with one of the Annotation features that isn't importing. Verify that the TextAnno point feature is located within the unit (room) boundaries.
5. In the Import CAD To Indoor Dataset tool's CAD Annotation Mapping entries, change Type from Text to Block. Set Source CAD Layer to the CAD layer that has the annotation, then see whether Block Attribute shows a dropdown with block attributes--if so, choose the appropriate block attribute.

I've also seen cases where CAD annotation is nested inside multiple blocks in such a way that it does not import. In such cases you can use AutoCAD's EXPLODE command to de-nest the annotation objects (assuming you have access to AutoCAD).

Hi @JaceBrown, all of @JasonHine's troubleshooting steps are excellent, I just wanted to clarify a couple things based on the way your original question was worded regarding "annotations showing up on the map".

- Annotation values are brought in as field values (in your case, based on your screenshot, in the Unit's NAME and USE_TYPE fields) and not as separate features. As such, the annotation values won't automatically show up on the map, you would need to configure labels for the Units layer. Can you confirm that the annotation values aren't being mapped to the Unit's NAME and USE_TYPE fields? 

- No need to add the annotation layers to Source Layers For Details or any other source inputs besides in the Annotations section. Here's some documentation on mapping annotation using the Import CAD tool.
