The current space planner configuration forces you to choose Hot Desk, Hotel, or Meeting Room when creating a workspace area with a focus on reservations. However, I see a significant need at the University of Rhode Island to create a functional workspace area. It could be used for service/cost centers, shop areas, dining halls, and especially research space. When managing higher ed space in accordance with FICM, dining halls are very often split into multiple Food Facility and Food Facility Service spaces. Combining them into a functional workspace area saves time in assigning occupants. Instead of drilling down to figure out exactly which space in the dining hall the occupants are assigned to, you can just assign them to the workspace. This functional workspace area, because of the nature of reservations in Indoors, would enable occupants to check in and out of the workspace. Think about how useful the check-in and check-out data would be for occupants working in a research workspace area during a base year for indirect cost rate negotiations. You would have actual data on how much time an occupant spent in a research-related workspace area!
