Are Custom Basemaps Working 100%

I started looking at using a custom basemap this morning.  Good idea for the site!

So far most of the basemaps were working .

Is anyone else having issues with using the OpenStreetMap basemap?  If I select it, it keeps the previously selected basemap and does not update the "set extent" area.  Saving the site only keeps the previously selected map.  Please see the attachment.

Yep, I'm experiencing that too. The OSM basemap is configured differently than the standard ArcGIS Online basemaps and we're looking into a fix for it.

I'm having the same problem using one of our own basemaps in Open Data. It appears in the dropdown list of available basemaps but when I click on it, nothing happens - the open data map won't update to use the custom basemap.

I don't know if its a problem with the cache itself or something within the Open Data config.

The cache is on a 10.2.2 server, cache details here.

I have compared the custom basemap I'm trying to use with the ESRI basemaps (via their rest endpoints) and I can't see any differences.

From the reply above - "The OSM basemap is configured differently than the standard ArcGIS Online basemaps and we're looking into a fix for it"

What is the difference between the OSM basemap and the standard AGOL basemaps? Is there something I can change in our basemap to make it useable in Open Data?

Malcom,

The Open Data Admin app runs under ssl, and thus needs to make a https request to the tile cache to get information about it (projection etc). In this case, it looks like ssl is not setup for that service, as

https://s1-mdc.cloud.eaglegis.co.nz/arcgis/rest/services/Cache/Basemap/MapServer?f=json

returns a 404, but non-ssl requests work..

http://s1-mdc.cloud.eaglegis.co.nz/arcgis/rest/services/Cache/Basemap/MapServer?f=json

I am looking into why this error is not being displayed in the UI, and get a patch on production asap, however, the fix will be the same - to use a tile cache in Open Data, it needs to support ssl so the admin tooling can interact with it.

Cheers,

Dave

That explains it perfectly. Thanks.

It would be helpful if this was mentioned in the Open Data documentation

Configure your Open Data site—ArcGIS Open Data | ArcGIS

It doesn't say that basemaps need to support SSL anywhere that I can see.

Good point Malcolm, we'll add it in.
