There seems to be about 100 different ways to get your data online, or mobile.   And it all seems to depend on what license or what equipment you have.   By all means, correct me if I"m wrong here.

I'm looking for the easiest way to be able to edit in the field.  Pretty much the only thing I'm trying to edit/create will be addresses or fire hydrant locations.  I'm not looking to do anything more complicated than that.  Stick a point on the map, label it, come back to the office and sync OR have it sync will i'm in the field.  Doesn't matter to me.  So, i'll tell you what I have.

I'm running Desktop 10 on my PC.
I'm running Server 10
I have a Windows 7 based tablet pc.
I have a couple iPads/iPhones/Droids

I'm able to connect to the internet while I'm on the road.  So I should be able to pull some small amounts of data to whichever device I decide on using.

I've downloaded the ESRI app on the iPad.  I can't get it to connect most of the time and when it does, it says my maps aren't valid.    So, basically..I'm curious of everyone's real life experience here.  Which combo of this crap is going to suit me best for what I'm trying to accomplish?

Thanks for your help!

Jamie,

Here are some resources to help you become familiar with Esri's ArcGIS for Mobile applications. Considering the mobile devices you have on-hand, I believe ArcGIS for Smartphones and Tablets is best suited for your described scenario. I recommend reviewing the information in these links to discover more about our Mobile GIS solutions via ArcGIS Resource Center.

Thanks Denise!   I went ahead and took the plunge yesterday morning.   I've installed Mobile on my Windows 7 tablet and the ESRI app on the iOS devices.   I still haven't figured out how to edit in the field on the iOS devices but really, that's not a big deal right now.  I'm all hooked up and viewing maps correctly on the tablet.  I've got everything I need to see running as it should be.   I went through and picked a couple of layers to be editable when setting everything up in the Mobile Project Center.   When I pull the maps into ArcGIS Mobile, click on "Tasks", then "Collect Features", I don't have anything but a blank page.  No layers show up.   Any suggestions?

Thanks again for replying!!

I would start with some of the information found in this thread, http://forums.arcgis.com/threads/20450-ArcMobile-10-Newbie and workflow document that should help you succeed from this link,  How to Deploy an ArcGIS Mobile Project with ArcGIS Desktop.

Hi,

I can't seem to look at the pdf you linked I just get a 404 error... Is there any way you could email it to me or something like that? It looks like it would be very helpful!

Thanks
