I wanted to start this thread as a place for questions.  I have been working with Trimble quite a bit to get this figured out.  Mostly on being able to switch from Analyst to Positions.  It seems like Trimble hasn't caught up to ESRI and the service pack yet, so they have workarounds for compatibility.  Lets hear some of your stories with the new software.

I apologize for squeezing sour grapes in the thread, but since you asked... In terms of problems I am having with Positions, it's all over the place, similar to all the problems others have posted in this thread (exporting cache, synching cache, correcting sessions, updating features). Every time someone goes into the field with it I face a wrestling match at the front and back-end of the field session troubleshooting steps that failed for a wide variety of reasons, most unknown. Trimble has had plenty of time to get these things working better. That, combined with an overall dissatisfaction with Positions in ArcGIS Mobile workflow, 1996 GUI, and mystic error handling. Some of these things are surely a result of or made worse due to integrating with chronically sub-par ArcGIS software (esp the workflows), so I don't blame it all on Trimble.

I may just be a tough customer, but reading the rest of this thread I would think not so much.

Ok. Now I have more information to work. I can understand your

frustrations. I ran into something similar but that was just working with

one project. I know when you switch projects or rename projects it

(positions) seems to be fussy.

I am a little confused when you mention ArcGIS Mobile. Are you running

Arcpad with positions?

I am running ArcGIS Mobile 10.1 for Windows Mobile running on a GeoXT that

has run fine without any problems.

I am also running ArcGIS Mobile 10.2.1 for Windows 7 running on a Yuma 2

Tablet PC running Windows 7 where the interface looks different from the AG

Mobile for Windows Mobile.

What kind of data are you collecting (for example points, lines and poly

lines)?

And, are you using domains and subtypes?

I am using ArcGIS Mobile 10.2 with Trimble Positions on GeoXH 6000's. Sometimes with customized extension, sometimes without, and also sometimes just ArcGIS Mobile (no Positions, on either GeoXH or Yuma). I almost never have any trouble using ArcGIS Mobile without Positions, but I almost always have trouble once Positions is involved. We collect all feature types, but no domains/subtypes. When using our custom extension, there are data entry forms that control what attribution can occur, similar to domains, but they are not geodatabase domains.

Hello Joseph,

I am impressed with your keen usage of ArcGIS Mobile. You are on the right

path. My question on the ArcGIS Mobile for Windows Mobile and Windows 7

running on your GEOXH and Yuma tablet: I assume you have activated the

NMEA, because without that you will not be able to get a position on your

AG Mobile screen. Have you done that? Just thought I would ask.

Anyways back to your problem. Just from you told me it has to be the

customized extension. AG mobile is finicky with other programs. What I

would do is migrate those forms to Domains and Subtypes. If you are not

comfortable in generating these non-programming forms. I can assist in

developing them without any cost. It is very simple. Send me a screen

shot of your form and I can show you how to develop that same form that

will run natively in AG mobile.

In kind spirit,

I have been performing some testing recently of GPS equipment running ArcGIS for Windows Mobile with and without the Trimble Postions Extension. I have run into an issue when working with the application in a specific setup. The primary GPS unit used in testing was a Trimble Geo 7x with ArcGIS for Windows Mobile 10.2 and Trimble Postions Extension version 10.2.0.2. I have a ArcGIS for Windows Mobile project consuming operational layers that are mobile feature services published from our server and exchange data via the Sync functionality within the ArcGIS for Windows Mobile application. The issue I am experiencing is once I have collected/edit features within this project and select "Manage Edits" from the Task menu the application just sits and spins (i.e. Will not complete Manage Edits Task) and I have to reset my Trimble unit and reopen the project. I have successfully performed the Manage Edits operation on the unit using a project that is a full local cache as well as opening the one with mobile feature services on a full windows device and the Windows version of ArcGIS for WM.

Has anyone else experienced this issue?

Does a resolution exist or am I stuck not being able to perform Manage Edits on my devices?

Appreciate any help.

Sincerely,

It may be a memory issue, depending on the amount of GPS points or lines

features you may have collected. I never seen this happen before.

However, I have moved to ArcGIS Mobile for Windows 7 running on a YUMA 2

tablet PC with 64GB of memory, without POSITIONS because I have activated

the NMEA on the TRIMBLE PROXRT hard cabled to the YUMA 2 tablet. AWESOME

setup. I hope that you or ESRI can figure it out. Do you have technical

support. If not, I can you my support contract to ask this question and

see if they (ESRI gurus) to help in this matter.

Has anyone had any luck determining why Trimble Positions can't find new sessions? I am having the same problem as cfoster15 and TrentR. I can synchronize a mobile cache and get the features to import that way but I need it to recognize the sessions in order to do post-processing. I have made sure everything is in the same projection, the MXD and project are associated, etc.. I'm not sure what's wrong.

Thanks!

I finally gave up on Postitions, it won!  I went back to Terra Sync.  Good Luck with Positions!

Does anyone know if Trimble Positions can be run in conjunction with ArcGIS for Windows Mobile running on a full Windows 7 Tablet (Panasonic)? Based on Trimble's literature the Positions extension does not operate on the full Windows OS, but I was curious if anyone had tried this approach anyways. It would be nice if they would release a version that was identified as compatible considering that ArcGIS for Windows Mobile can be run on a full Windows OS. Thanks in advance for any responses.

Good news and bad news...  Good news, I was able to get a test project to find my session data only after going into Positions Desktop Configuration and creating a new Jet DB.  Bad news, it only worked that one time and I am now back to Positions not being able to find any new sessions.

I would suggest going through your log files to look for any glaring issues.  Here's where you can find a number of them (locations on your machine may differ):

C:\Users\<user>\AppData\Local\Trimble\Positions\10.1
C:\Users\<user>\AppData\Roaming\Trimble\Positions\10.1
C:\ProgramData\Trimble\Positions\10.1
C:\Users\<user>\AppData\Local\ESRI\Desktop10.1\AssemblyCache\{guid string}
\My Documents\Positions
C:\Users\<user>\Documents\ArcGIS\AddIns\Desktop10.1
C:\Windows\SysWOW64\config\systemprofile\AppData\Roaming\Trimble\Trimble Positions License Manager
C:\Users\<user>\AppData\Roaming\Trimble\Trimble Positions License Manager
C:\Program Files (x86)\Trimble\Trimble Positions License Manager TrimblePositionsLicenseManager.exe.config AND TrimblePositionsLicenseService.exe.config

Hope this helps!
