Hi,
I have a fully functioning disconnected-mode ArcGIS mobile application utilizing Windows Mobile 6.x.  This application does everything I want it to do...gather points/lines/polygons with GPS sub meter accuracy, sketch points/lines/polygons with a stylus, identify, zoom, etc.  It is using mobile mapcache and thus is easily "pushed" back up to the server once we get internet (or otherwise) connection to the server and changes are automatically displayed in the geodatabase.  Wonderful!  The problem is that Microsoft is pushing out the Windows Mobile 6.x platform.  You cannot upgrade from Mobile 6.x to Phone 7.  We are at a point where we need to deploy a program and purchase more devices...but it seems that these $1500-$2000 devices are not going to be supported anymore.  Trimble just released (June) a new device with Phone 7 on it.

SO...my question is when will ESRI support disconnected mode with the Windows Phone platform?  We need to decide whether to purchase the new Trimble with Phone 7 or an older device with Mobile 6.x.   From what I have been told and have researched on, I do not see a way to do disconnected editing on mobile mapcache with Windows Phone.  Is this to be released any time soon??  I see forum questions and possible release dates dating back to 2010, but have not seen anything solid.  Does ESRI support ANYTHING newer than Mobile 6.x for disconnected editing in the field?  If there is a solid release date, then I can attempt to write a program that has everything but editing, with the plan to add editing later.  But, I am having a hard time making a decision when I have not heard of a possible release date for this functionality.  Any ideas?  Is this in the queue?  Has anyone heard of anything that I can research into further?

Also, I've heard of an emulator that can emulate Windows Mobile on a Windows Phone but no release date of that yet, either.  Suggestions like this are welcome, too...anything that will help me use disconnected mode on a supported platform!

Thanks!

As far as I've heard, Windows Mobile is kind of evolving/becoming Windows Embedded Handheld. It's basically a rebranded Windows Mobile but with support going forward. Juniper announced a month or so ago that their Mesa line would be upgrading to using Windows Embedded Handheld 6.5. We got our hands on them and it's functionally identical to Windows Mobile 6.5. If I had to guess, Trimble will be going down this same path shortly.
