Rendering of ArcGIS map services on Esri Maps for Sharepoint

Greetings

Trying to consume outside map services has been a bit of a challenge for our Sharepoint web part.

In using the Add Content/Search/ArcGIS tool, it seems that all but the simplest of datasets will not render when added to the contents.

The datasets will show in the table of contents, with legend symbology, but not show in the map, with the exception of datasets limited to a small number of points or polygons usually contained to a small geographic area. Rasters (which we are actually looking for) will not render at all, no matter how small the memory space.

Using the "Go To" tool, and selecting non-rendering datasets in the table of contents, the map will centre on the presumed extents of the dataset, so it seems to be reading the data, but it's just not showing up on the map.

I will also note that consuming ESRI basemaps online is not an issue.

Any feedback on this issue would be greatly appreciated.  Thanks in advance.

Hi Rob,

It sounds like you're using the Silverlight-based ArcGIS Map Web Part, is that correct? For the most part the only lag you should see is if you're loading feature layers with points and there are more points in the layer than are configured for retrieval. (See Feature Retrieval).

I'm not sure about why a raster layer would have trouble loading. You could try running Fiddler or another web debugging tool and take a look at the traffic. Also, if you have an example you can share I'd be happy to check and see if it loads for me. You can always send me a private message with the url if needed.
