I am on 2.1.1, just installed today, and I am part of the state of Virginia organization...

vgin.maps.arcgis.com - in my config it is https://vgin.maps.arcgis.com.  I am using my personal account to post this...

Installed twice today, was having crashing issues with Excel.  I can sign-in but everything is grayed out, so I can't make a map or anything.

It looks like the add-in is setup correctly, I just can't do anything with it.

Any help would be appreciated.

Thanks,

Scott

Hi Scott -

Is it possible for you to contact support about this issue? From a dev perspective, it really helps if we are able to see all the issues with our product when they are collected in one place. Support is really good about detailing steps to reproduce the issue and we regularly get reports about which issues are being experienced the most. This helps us focus in on where the problem areas really are. Forum posts don't get collected in the same way necessarily, so if you could log an incident that would help us out a lot - not to mention it would probably be the fastest way to get your problem solved.

Thanks!

Thanks Scott,

I'm not sure I can put a support ticket in, I don't have the customer information since I'm at a State of VA office - and we get all of our services under a single contract and I am just a user of the resource provided by our GIS agency.

Might be that I can request that agency to create the support request.

Thanks,

Scott

Was doing some trouble-shooting this morning and I think that my Excel instance has restrictions on add-ins...

Here is my add-in settings:

ESRI does not appear to be signed, and there is no ESRI in my trusted publisher list:

My ribbon after sign-on:

My Excel ESRI Maps settings:

I'm thinking that everything is inactive in the ribbon because of the add-in settings that require the publisher to be trusted and the add-in to be signed.

Thanks,

Scott

Hi Scott -

Are you trying to connect Maps for Office to Portal for ArcGIS? If so, I suspect something may not be configured correctly in Portal (and unfortunately Portal config is outside my realm of knowledge).

If you're not trying to connect to a Portal, change the ArcGIS Connection to http://www.arcgis.com in the Esri Maps backstage area (File > Esri Maps). The only time you should really change the ArcGIS Connection is when you connect to a Portal.

Hope this helps with your troubleshooting,
Scott

Thanks Scott...

I have uninstalled / re-installed the add-in multiple times and selecting each of the different portal options each time.  Same behavior each time for the most part.

I'm not sure I can test this outside of work, I'll have to see if I could get a trial download of Office and see if the add-in options that I outlined previously stop ESRI maps for Office working properly in a separate environment.

If someone at ESRI could validate this behavior by setting the add-in security options in Excel to what I have in my local machine, it would validate my settings and issues I'm having.

Is there some reason why the Publisher is not listed on the Add-in?

Thanks,

Scott

I changed my Add-in settings in the Trust Center settings to match yours (Require Application Add-ins to be signed: ON, Disable notification for unsigned add-ins: ON, Disable all Application Add-ins: OFF) and the Esri Maps toolbar works just fine for me. I'm able to sign in, insert a map, etc. I don't think this is your issue.

I do believe the issue is with your ArcGIS Connection in the Esri Maps backstage. Are you trying to connect to a Portal for ArcGIS server or are you trying to connect to ArcGIS Online?

Scott - thanks for trying it out.

Are there any logs I can look at?

Maybe I'm making some mistake here, or have some incorrect assumption.

Here, I have a blank workbook, I sign-in, the lock icon closes and I am expecting the insert map icon to become active.

In any case, when trying to authenticate against www.arcgis.com or https://vgin.maps.arcgis.com (portal or organization), I can't get the insert map icon to become active, either with a blank worksheet or a worksheet with lat/lng information in it.

Maybe there is some firewall or rule restricting the insert map icon to work properly?

I'm going to try this outside of my work environment at home, and see if it is our VGIN account has the problem.

I had this error after installing the latest version of Esri maps for office over the previous version. I fixed it by uninstalling, installing again and setting the path for ArcGIS online during install. The only difference from Scott is that I am not using Portal, but an org account.
