Help mapping data, my organization has asked me to use my ArcGIS skills to take an existing Excel file to map the projects we are currently engaged in by City and County. I'm looking for the appropriate file type and data fields required to alter an existing Excel document to be able to upload the data set into our ArcGIS Online account and map the locations.

Any assistance would be greatly appreciated. I'm open to scheduling a Zoom or Teams meeting to share the current file and talk through the necessary steps to be able to map the data.

Thank you,

Josh Young

Good Afternoon @JoshYoungSCEDD,

Thank you for posting your workflow inquiry here. If your end goal is to upload the Excel worksheet to ArcGIS Online, I can suggest a workflow but I would recommend following up with the ArcGIS Online Communit as well. If you have a specific question using ArcGIS for Excel, the add-in, I can assist you further.

To upload an Excel file to ArcGIS Online, you can:

  1. Log in to your ArcGIS account
  2. Click Contents
  3. Click New Item
  4. Drag and drop the Excel file or select it from your device
  5. Review the location fields in the Excel file
  6. Provide information for the file, such as a title, tags, and summary
  7. Select a folder to save the file in
  8. Click Save

Here is an additional resource I also found that may be helpful called, Turn your Excel data into an ArcGIS Online layer

Please let me know if you have additional questions.

Best,

SC

I'm looking for direction on what are the most appropriate location fields to use for input.
