Setting a Corridor Flight Plan for Videography Without Drone Adjusting to every Waypoint

Hi All,

I have a question regarding setting up a flight plan in Flight for a corridor scan. I want to create and automate a flight over the center of a long, winding road using my Mavic Pro 2. I have tried to fly it already, but the drone's adjusting for every little waypoint. This creates a video full of start and stops where the drone is almost constantly adjusting to every waypoint. Is there a way to create a corridor scan where the drone won't have to adjust to every waypoint and will instead fly a smooth path over the road. I tried to import a polyline for it to fly but it still wants to create waypoints. Any suggestions for smooth flight plans for video capture would be appreciated.

Thanks!

Hi @DylanHinton,

Thanks for the question. In the current release of ArcGIS Flight the app is using the waypoints that are optimized for a photogrammetry type missions. For video mode, we are using the same waypoint file but instead of taking still photos we are instead starting a recording session  at the start of the mission and turning it off at the end.

I have added a more "cinematic" style video smoothing option as an enhancement we can consider for a future release.

As far as suggestions, perhaps reducing the number of "photos" taken for the mission might smooth out the flight path slightly but I feel the true solution would be for the Flight app to create a mission designed and optimized for this very workflow/use case. Something I think the team should consider in future releases as I can see it's value.
