As Esri are platform agnostic, please can you create an Android version of Site Scan app. Based on its history and that Esri purchased it from 3DR, I realise why it is currently only available on iOS devices, however it is an important application for all users who use Drone2Map and related software. Even Quick Capture integrates with Site Scan to leverage the ability for capturing data.

Hi @NicoBonnafoux

Apple products are very popular in the US, most of the users in the US are using iPhones and iPads.

Dji is the most popular drone manufacture, they chose Android for the default option for their users,

its very simple, ESRI should decide if they want to support Dji products and Android users.

I wont buy another remote controller in order to use Sitescan, i will simple wont use it.

your answer about the "discontinued support for this drone, and other M200-series drones" is irrelevant. to this discussion.

Are there Android users among the Site Scan team?

Our Enterprise DJI Smart Controllers run on Android.  We already have the controllers as they offer a better form factor than the iPad attached to a mount with a dongle.  Please release an android version to match what has become the industry standard controllers.

@sang_gu_USCH, please use Site Scan Flight Questions board to ask your questions. I'll be removing your comment as it is not related to this idea.

GregoryEnglishAAAE makes an EXCELLENT point! I've had the iPad shut down on me on very hot days. They are rather unstable in high heat.

And as other's have explained, DJI is still the drone industry leader and their controllers run Android. It is cumbersome to have to attach the iPad to the controller.

And the reason we went with Site Scan over Pix4D Mapper or Cloud is because we can bring our GIS Portal web maps into the Site Scan flight planner to create the boundaries of our mission with our assets showing up on the screen. The imagery in the background may be too blurry to properly lay out and miss a tower, but when we can see our GIS assets and know where that tower is in our GIS data, we can avoid it. Being able to bring our GIS enterprise data into flight planner was a huge selling point for us. we can't bring our web maps into Pix4D Capture or any other 3rd party flight planning apps...that I know of.

And finally, yes, we could fly our missions in a 3rd party app, but Site Scan purports to be a complete package and offers fleet management. I was blown away when my batteries automagically showed up in the fleet management section!!!! That is freaking awesome that I didn't have to enter the serial number or anything about the batteries. And apparently I have a preference for battery #2!!! The fleet management capabilities when we fly our missions with flight planner helps us make sure to rotate through our batterie and tracks other maintenance metrics for us.

Most modern drones are using Android Smart Controllers. Autel is the main alternative to DJI (which is not a viable option for my local gov) and it would be great to have Site Scan for Android. Autel has an SDK available... that would make Site Scan an end-to-end solution allowing for fleet management.

Hi @NicoBonnafoux,

Do you have any idea when it will be released, or any shedule?

Thanks

NicoBonnafoux

Hi @BrunoGomesdeSouza

We've just recently built up the team and started working on Android version of the Flight app, it's too early to know when a first release may be available.

Happy to keep you mind when we're ready for some user testing if that's something you're interested in, let us know!

BrunoGomesdeSouza

Hello @NicoBonnafoux,

Thanks by the quick response.
Yes, I will aprecciate so much do some user tests in android Site Scan beta. Let me know when it's ready to test.

BrentPierce

@BrunoGomesdeSouza we would love to work with you here. The team is creating a list of individuals interested in participating in a beta of the Android App. If you don't mind, can you send an email to bpierce@esri.com with your best contact info and we can reach out as we get closer to beta?

Thanks,

-Brent
