Request: Make Field Maps compatible with GNSS receivers with tilt compensation

In our experience GNSS receivers with tilt compensation more than double the efficiency of data collection.

Many (most?) of the more recent ones include tilt compensation, from the Trimble R780 and R12i receivers, the Hemisphere S631, the Emlid Reach RS3, all the way down to the $1300 SparkFun RTK Torch.

Currently we are using Microsurvey FieldGenius Android for data collection but some departments here at the City would like to use Field Maps. The only thing stopping us is the lack of tilt compensation compatibility.

Please bring this enhancement into active status.

I am sure many others would concur. If you do, add a request to the thread below.

Very interesting to hear that tilt compensation in Field Maps seems to be working with iOS and Android, thanks for reaching out and reporting back here in this thread.  My company is planning to use Emlid products. Should be fine...they (Reach RX2/RS3) have MFi certification.  But sounds like ESRI Support has this info at their fingertips, I'll check in with ESRI as well and see what they say.

Did you get any clarity on this question? Emlid makes it clear that it is your problem if field maps doesn't support tilt compensation: 

"1 – The tilt compensation feature is always available in Emlid Flow. If you are using third-party software, ensure that it supports tilt-compensated data." 

Also, I've never gotten a clear picture of how Geoids are handled by Emlid in relation to ArcGIS but that's a whole new can of worms.

I'm looking at a RX2 and the Leica Zeno FLX100 right now. On paper the RX2 should be a superior unit but when solving for ArcGIS integration, tilt and orthometric height, the Zeno FLX100 and its mobile apps make me want to spend the the extra money on a Leica.

Hi,

we have seen similar benefits from tilt-compensated GNSS receivers in field workflows. The General Laser GLRM is another compact RTK receiver that includes tilt compensation and is designed for efficient mobile GIS data collection.

For applications where users are collecting many points in the field, being able to measure without constantly leveling the pole can significantly improve workflow speed and usability.

It would be great to see broader tilt compensation support across ArcGIS Field Maps and more GNSS receiver integrations.

I talked to MicroSurvey Inc., who have extensive data for interfacing with nearly all tilt-compensated receivers and they were amenable to licensing the capability to ESRI.
