Hello!

While using field maps to georeference a point, we get this error:

Low quality of location, your GPS location is old.

We can still take our points, but we are just wondering why this message keeps popping up for every point we take.

Here is the message that pops up (in French).erreur_old_location_field_maps.jpg

Thanks!

This might not completely answer your question, but serve as a caution to consider.

The Error Messages displayed are not always exactly what the problem is but rather the best message the system can come up with. However, if you are still collecting points and the message is correct, you may be storing incorrect positions for those collected points.

Is Field Maps correctly tracking your current position on your mobile device, and showing expected locations for the points you are setting? If so, then perhaps the error message is not indicating the correct problem. If it is not tracking correctly, something else is going on and will require further troubleshooting. Try cold rebooting the mobile device as a start if you have not yet already done that. Does the mobile device track your current position in other applications like Google Maps or Google Earth correctly. Check for the proper profile attached in your Field Maps session.

To help ensure that you have high quality positions being stored, you should always check into a known monument with a published position at least daily, and compare your stored position to the published position. Even if you are not operating in a critical high accuracy mode, this will still give you confidence that you process is delivering good positions.

Hope that helps some.

I know you mentioned it was resolved but just for some context. That message should only show when you are attempting to add a new point/vertex at your gps location but that location is stale ie the app has not received a new location from your GPS within the last few seconds or longer. When this occurs your current location display in the map, ie blue dot, should turn grey to indicate the location is stale and there should be text in the GPS details indicating the last time it was updated as well. A stale location can happen when you lose your GPS fix by moving indoors, under heavy tree canopy or around many high rise buildings among other reasons. I hope this helps!

Colin
