Using fieldmaps I often need to search for an existing feature and then create a new different feature on top of it. While this is doable if I am standing near the existing feature and then adjust the location to snap to the existing feature, it is totally impractical if I am elsewhere since touching the "+" sign immediately pans the map to the current GPS location. Is there any way I can get FieldMaps to just put the location circle in the center of my current extents?

You can check with Esri AI Chatbot, (I just did), it does allow it. You will need to enable it through Field Maps Designer - for "manual location" instead of auto-adding a feature at your GPS location! I personally manage all of my edits on ArcGIS Pro being in-office.

Thank you for this! It is a solution, but I would have expected to find a setting like that in Fieldmaps where the user can control it. I too manage my edits in the office but am stuck with using ArcMap, so the info for edits is much easier to get if I make other people to enter it!

Yes, that gets very annoying when you are panned to the area you want to make a point and it pans you back to your GPS position.

That setting is controlled in Field Maps designer App Settings:
